One of the most beautiful sarees in India known as the Baluchari sarees are produced by craftsmen of Bishnupur, west bengal. The silk threads are tinted individually and then placed into a loom. Designs are woven with the assistance of a series of punch cards that are hung from the apex of the loom. These punch cards are rectangular part of cardboard with hundreds of holes perforated in accordance with the design. The coloured strands go by through these holes and drop into place very specifically on the loom. One saree can have a whole episode from the Mahabharata woven into its border and pallu.
