Artisans or Basket weavers of Himachal Pradesh who are at hand more or less throughout the state are engaged in basket production craft or basketry. A variety of utility stuff like kiltu , a huge cone shaped basket to store grain, padded seats and fans are the craft items of these artisans. The craftsmen are known by diverse names in different districts. They are identified as dumnas, domras, bararas, reharas, banjaras, kolis or chamangs. The raw materials comprise of diverse types of grass, wood, leaves and fibres. Dissimilar techniques of intertwin and interlace are applied to craft the items. However women weavers create items for domestic use right through the year, the men knit mainly during the winter.
