Manipuri pottery is exclusive in fashion and technique. Contrasting in other part of India, the craft is adept both by men and women. The potters of this region do not use a wheel and as an alternative, use the coiled technique to make pots. The pots are useful and more frequently than not, black in colour, outcome of the process pursue and of the smoke stains whilst firing. Pottery of Manipur is made with a combination of clay and powder stone. After a meticulous rubdown, a hefty slab is rolled out and formed into a cylindrical shape.

The cylinder is positioned on a circular board, which, sequentially, is positioned on a stool. The potter then in reality moves about the clay himself, shape and ultimate formation of the pot. The pot is hold from the inside by means of a round stone and compacted to the required shape and width. Great handiness is necessary as the interior pressure and exterior movement must be well synchronized to fabricate an ideal pot. The pot is habitually completed by chafing the surface with the reddish-brown seed of a natural creeper and in the end with bees wax.
