Split ply camel girths of Rajasthan are usually prepared by hand with no involvement of any kind of loom. Goat hair or cotton string is woven into thread on the spindle which doubly make it two ply and so on. A four ply yarn is reeled on a spindle and the next cord is threaded from end to end the eye pulling back through the first one. The process is prepared next to the row, and worked down, row by row, where every individual cord reaches down and across the new fabric diagonally line which creates a zigzag pattern. There are variations in pattern which could either be monochrome, chequered or a design in parallel waves.
