Kashmir manufactures some of the most wonderfully handcrafted papier mache items. Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh crafts papier mache toys, whereas in Ujjain figures of admired deities are prepared of this material. Jaipur in Rajasthan and Chennai are as well famous for the papier mache crafts.
The meaning of the word Papier Mache is chewed wood and is done by combination of soaked paper along with glue and shaping them with the use of molds. The designs painted over all the products are brilliant with golden color being an indispensable color especially in the Kashmiri style. The tribal dolls are more crude and dyed with the earthen colors in their brightest.
