This craftsmanship practised chiefly in Belgaum in Karnataka. The granule of the material and the deviations in colours are used delicately whilst crafting the products. When heated and oil is put into, the horn becomes spongy and flexible. The most general product is the comb --- conventional, double sided with mild carvings, or extra decorative with ivory or mother-of-pearl strip.
The other things are decorative hair pins, combs, and artificial copies of jewels used in hair decoration. Some are elaborately carved with trellis pattern whereas others having a void filled with oil which pour out as the comb is passed through the hair. Button, trays, cigarette cases, small boxes, ash trays, pen holders and lamps are crafted as well.
